Look to the Lord

Luke 9:1–6; Acts 8:18; Acts 19:13–16

Yesterday, “Umma’s Corner” sold $800. Congratulations!
Maybe it was a small gift from God for Mother’s Day.

A mom is someone who gives birth and raises a child.
When a baby is born and held in the mom’s arms, the baby looks into her eyes. There are no walls between their eyes. It’s one of the purest things we can see in this world.

We should look at God the same way.
Like tuning a radio, we must match our hearts with God’s Spirit.
Then we can understand His voice.
If not, we may hear the wrong things.

When we read the Bible, it is very important to understand why God says something.
In today’s verse, it says:

“Jesus gave them power and authority to drive out demons and heal diseases, to tell people about the Kingdom of God.”

The reason Jesus gave power was not just for healing or miracles.
The reason was to tell people about God’s Kingdom and to help the sick.

If we only care about the power and miracles, we may not understand the Bible correctly.
We might miss what God really wants to tell us.

Jesus gave two missions:

Preach the Kingdom of God

Heal the sick

Luke, who wrote this Gospel, was a doctor.
That’s why he often wrote about healing and sickness.
He cared about people getting better.

The church’s job is to tell people about God.
Hospitals help people feel better in their bodies.
But body and soul are connected.
We need both healing for the body and healing for the heart and soul.

Some people have heart wounds.
Some feel empty inside.
The Good News of God helps heal the inside.
Then, the body can also get better.
This may be how Luke saw it as a doctor.

A person is made of body, soul, and spirit.
We must care for all of them.

But if we only care about power and miracles, we can go the wrong way.
We must remember why Jesus gave power.
If we forget His reason, we may not follow His will.
The Bible says such people will not share in God’s blessings.

In Acts 19:13–16, some men tried to use Jesus’ name to cast out demons — but they didn’t believe in Jesus.
They got hurt because of it.

In Acts 8:18, a man named Simon tried to buy the power of the Holy Spirit with money.
The apostles told him to repent.

These stories are in the Bible to warn us.
Even today, we can ask for the wrong things — even in church, or in ministry.

When we ask with the wrong heart, it can hurt many people.
It can break families. It can lead someone far away from God.

So we must always check our thoughts and prayers.
Why are we doing this?
What is the reason?

Most of all, we should try to understand God’s reason — what He is doing, and why.

Let us keep looking to God, and try to understand His heart.
May we not miss the way of salvation.
Let’s follow His will and stay close to Him.
